Hello there! Welcome to my fuzzy little world.
I’ve been hanging out on this stack quite frequently over the past few months. And I’ve got to say, it’s very comfortable here! I feel right at home.
So I thought, since I’m here, I’d start sharing my thoughts with you on some issues that keep bugging me. And maybe you can help me understand what’s going on.
For instance: how do you know who to believe? About ANYTHING?
Do you believe everything you hear on TV?
So much happens in the world every day, it would be impossible for regular news coverage to show you everything that’s going on. Or every angle of the stories that they DO report on.
There’s always someone deciding what you will hear, and what you won’t. And whoever provides the money for that program or network can have a HUGE influence on whether you find out what’s really going on in the world.
So I like to listen to independent news sources. There are quite a lot of them now. Some are experts in their field, like medicine, statistics, economics or law; others report on what those experts have to say.
They don’t get generous corporate funding like the old TV media does. Sometimes they get censored – that’s a good indication that they are REALLY worth listening to!
Bunches of them keep getting together, holding public meetings, trying to get important information out. One of those meetings is happening today!
So friends, since these people are going to a lot of trouble to help us, I really do recommend listening to what they have to say ❤️
Check out this book: Postjournalism and the death of newspapers. The media after Trump: manufacturing anger and polarization by Andrew Myr. Pretty solid exegeses of how we've reached today's mess. BTW, cats are made in heaven... (and I am a dog person!)
This was a wonderful event!
